Old Artist Statement
Like a heartbeat, the rythmic recurrence of life experiences are a collection of oscillating emotions perceived through mind, body and soul. My paintings allow me to capture, weigh and express this complex range of experiences when words are inadequate. I aim to avoid a flatline of predictable work and continue to convey artistically healthy spikes that are much more interesting to me.
The physical representations of the feelings I try to impart on my paintings are typically achieved through texture, balance and movement, and color. Though my styles vary between post-impressionism, realism and abstract art, my heavy application of paint, placement of objects within the compositions and vived hues provide a common emotional charge that binds the pieces together. I work in intense bursts and frequently keep brushstrokes viewable to heighten the impact.
From my studio in Medina, Ohio, I create most of my paintings on gallery-wrapped canvas in order to provide a multi-dimensional feeling to the work. While I continue to do oil paintings, my focus now is on acrylics with occasional mixtures of various mediums to provide an additional sense of texture.
